Everyone has wondered: “what is love?” Is it a mere chemical reaction to be neatly explained away by neuroscientists? Or is it the more sublime sentiment transcending our physical beings that poets have sung throughout our history and across all cultures?
The Persian poet Rumi said “Lovers don’t finally meet somewhere. They’re in each other all along.” It is in this sense of the romantic nature of love that we have all, at some point, realized … or at least intuited its very real existence. The beauty of it makes us wish for it when it is absent and relish its presence.
As we all spring from the earth and find love in others who are similarly sons and daughters of Gaia, so we recognize our close bond with the environment that created us. This same environment created the things that surround us, from the mountains to the seas and from its living inhabitants to its soil and rocks and minerals.
What then could be more natural than to adorn oneself, and one’s love, with the fruits of our earth. Franghiadi’s wearable art is inspired to this ideal. We are one with mother earth and the stones we adorn ourselves with are at once a celebration of this fact and an indication of our love of the nature that surrounds us.
